Greetings, Dear Mission Of Hope Friends;

I think what we are privileged to get to do at the Mission of Hope is very special. And every now and then there are some days more special than others. And then on occasion there are even more special days…There are days like yesterday.

Yesterday I took our long time special MOH Friend Phil Peek on a field trip. Remember Brother Phil? He was almost killed in a horrible car wreck last April after blacking out at the wheel and hitting a tree head on.  For the next several weeks he was in the hospital here in Knoxville. He almost died several times as his condition deteriorated and grew worse.  And then “A Miracle Happened”…He got well and the Prayers that were lifted up on his behalf were answered.  And God healed our dear Brother Phil.

We went to Clinch School first where the MOH serves; and were able to bring them a “Surprise Gift” of two 42″ Big Screen TV’s which we were blessed to have donations given to purchase them with. We visited class after class as Phil thanked each and every teacher and student for their prayers and for their wonderful get well cards. We then went to Hancock Elementary where the MOH serves; and once again visited class after class as Phil continued to thank every teacher and student there for their prayers and get well cards. We then went to Hancock County High School and visited with Principal Mike Belcher. And he perhaps said it best, “Phil…You have blessed my heart today; knowing you are well”.

I watched something very special take place yesterday…I got to see first hand, “Hope Fulfilled”; in an amazing and sweet spirited way.  I watched a Christian Brother get to acknowledge to his friends how God had saved his life and had healed him. But I got to see the precious smiles and excited children respond with their love for Phil and their amazement that their prayers had been answered.

Thank you for your friendship; and thank you for your support; and thank you for your prayers. And please remember and never forget…God is indeed our Greatest Source of Hope.

Greetings, Dear Mission Of Hope Friends;

WOW!  Where did January Go!!  And what happened to WINTER?!?!?!

Oh well…It hasn’t changed the fact that we are still staying busy here at the Mission Of Hope.  And here is some of the latest NEWS and HAPPENINGS at The Hope.

DAY TO DAY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

We are still being blessed with donations of gently used clothing & furniture items.  We welcome volunteers to go and help with pickups and then deliveries of these wonderful items for our ministry. We also welcome front office volunteers to assist Shirley & Diane with various office tasks. For more info please contact the MOH Office (865-584-7571) or by e-mail (info@missionofhope.org).

GOOD CONDITIONED USED FURNITURE DONATIONS NEEDED @ MOH

As we strive to serve the various Mountain Ministry Centers and Schools we assist, we continually receive humble and many times quite sad and urgent appeals for good used conditioned furniture. Bedroom and kitchen and casual/den type furniture is needed now at the MOH.  Please give us a call if you have any.

CANNED & NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS NEEDED @ MOH

We always welcome non-perishable food donations at the MOH.  And the truth is we continually get requests for them.  We try to send food items out with every Mission Of Hope Truck Delivery so that the Ministry Centers we serve can have it for their Food Pantry’s and thus be able to distribute it in their area.

Here’s a thought…How about having a “Soup for the Hope Collection Event” at your company, church, Sunday School, civic group, neighborhood association, or other and just focus on collecting Soup and Peanut Butter and Crackers.  You might even have a “Soup Dinner Fellowship” (which would be FUN during the Winter) and make the price of admission some Food Donations for The Hope.  We would be THRILLED to even loan you a couple of Mission Of Hope – Big Blue Collection Barrels; for your Collection Event.

YEAR END DONATIONS RECEIPTS & THANK YOU LETTERS UPDATE

We truly work hard here at the Mission Of Hope to always try and say THANK YOU. And yet we know that those two words will never be enough…For how you deem us worthy of your support. A special and hearty THANK YOU to Shirley Plant & Diane Webster and all of their Volunteer Hero’s for completing that task in January. Please know how grateful we are for all of the Financial & Resource Donations we receive at the MOH.

EXCITING EVENTS AHEAD IN 2012!!!!!

Please stay tuned to our Mission Of Hope Updates & E-mails about exciting upcoming Events. You can also keep in touch with us by visiting our web site at: www.missionofhope.org. Help us extend True Hope…to those who are in many cases hopeless.

Thank you for your friendship and support and for all you do to help us extend Hope in rural Appalachia.

For more info please contact the MOH Office (865-584-7571) or by e-mail (info@missionofhope.org)

Greetings, Dear Mission Of Hope Friends;

We have been privileged and blessed to serve many schools throughout the rural Appalachian Communities we go too. But there is none more special than Beckham Bates Elementary School in Isom, KY.  The hallways and classrooms exude the pride of the students and staff that attends there.  It is with great sadness that we have learned from the school principal that Beckham Bates will be closing at the end of this current school year in May. The students and their families and the staff are all distraught that this moment has come. At the present time, the plans are being developed as to where all of the Beckham Bates students will attend school in the future. As I learn more details, I will keep you updated.

The Principal at the school actually asked us to keep their school and the students and their families uplifted in prayer.  I felt honored that he asked us to do that and I am humbly appealing to you to do just that.  We have had the privilege of sharing with this school that God loves them and that Jesus is their Greatest Source of Hope.

Thanks for your friendship and support and for all you do to help us extend The Hope.

Seasons Greetings, Dear Mission of Hope Friends;

We trust that this greeting finds you healthy and rested and also being able to enjoy some time with your family’s at this very special time of the holidays.

If you have interest in deeming our humble Appalachian Relief Ministry worthy of a year end financial donation; we would be immensely grateful. As a year round ministry, we work hard to assist those we have been privileged to serve throughout various rural communities.  The needs are tremendous in rural areas and I truly do not know what many of the Mountain Ministry Centers we assist would do without our help. We also work diligently to try and be good stewards of all that we have been given. Just as an information note we were blessed to put 91 cents of every dollar given last year back into the ministry efforts of the Mission of Hope. We trust and pray that we can continue to operate in this low overhead manner.

Please remember that all donations must be postmarked by December 31st, 2011, for 2011 tax purposes. Please feel free to mail donations to:  Mission of Hope – P.O. Box 51824 – Knoxville, TN  37950; or you can call the Mission of Hope Office at  865-584-7571 to donate by Credit Card.

Thanks for your friendship and support…But thanks most of all for all you do to help us extend The Hope.

Seasons Greetings, Dear Mission Of Hope Friends;

I trust that this Christmas Greeting finds you at Peace…Hope Filled…And ready to celebrate the Greatest Christmas Gift Of All…The Birth of The Christ Child Jesus.

I wanted to share with you several very special comments we have received at The Hope in recent days; from some of our Mission Of Hope Friends who were able to go on some of our Christmas Delivery Trips.  Every Delivery Trip was extremely special and I know that each Program Team could share heart touching stories, from each of their Blessed Events.

FROM Yvette J.
“Today, I went with the MOH to Burchfield School.  I have yet to go on a MOH Trip when I wasn’t the one who ended up receiving the Blessing.  Well today was no different.  My first precious Child or shall I say a Tween; was an 8th Grade Girl and she greeted me with a huge hug and then she handed me a very special letter.  Wow; I really had to hold back the tears, as she touched me so much.  Later in the day, I got to talk with the Principal and she helped me understand something that made this even more special.  This young lady’s Family has had a really tough time and that she has a lot going on in her life right now.  With some perfume and lip gloss and nail polish; I watched her smile and then she gave me a hug.  What do I call this smile?…A smile of God’s Precious Love, giving Hope to a Child who otherwise might have none; during a time of year when we should let the Baby Jesus’s Birth; shine thru us…By showing His Love.”

FROM Nancy R.
“Once again we had a most wonderful trip to Right Fork School.  The Kids were so excited.  We were able to take 10 UT Cheerleaders and Smokey & Smokey Jr. with us.  We had a bus load of Helpers and our Youth Minister brough Kids along with us as well.  Every year, I think its the best Program yet.  The Students loved our program and gave us hugs of love and special Thank You letters as well.  One Studetn who had been at the School for years; came up and told us how much they appreciated the Mission Of Hope and their Program’s over the years there.  When it was time to leave, the Principal and I shared tears of joy; as she told me how much they appreciated us, and how we shared the True Meaning of Christmas…Jesus’s Birth.
The day was perfect…The weather was perfect…And God was there with us.  What a Blessing for us all.”

FROM JudithM.
“The Teams had safe travels, in spite of the heavy rain and fog.  Our Church and the Mission Of Hope; provided wonderful items that we got to give out to the Children.  The Word Players performed The Christmas Story; at Mountain View School.  Judy G.  crocheted beautiful scarves; for each School Staff Member.  We are very grateful to all of the Volunteers and our Truck Driver; for all of their help unloading and helping set up for our Program.  Steve J. and Bobby M.; did an outstanding job acknowledging the Stay In School – Pledge To Graduate Program; that Mission Of Hope began last Fall, when the new School Year began.  We are Blessed to serve our Lord Jesus Christ…And His community.”

“AND THEN IT WAS CHRISTAS”  By Emmette Thompson – December 1998

And then it was Christmas; when on a cold wintry night…
The Christ Child was born; under a star filled sky so bright.

And then it was Christmas; when God looked down from Above…
On the World He’d Created; and to which He had sent His Son.

And now it is Christmas; that most wonderful time of the year…
When friends and loved ones gather; to create meories with laughter and cheer.

I wish for you this Christmas; a most Joyous and Blessed Holiday…
And that you cherish the Greatest Gift of all; the Christ Child’s Birthday.

May the wonderful Spirit of Christmas, wrap its arms around you and your Family and your Hope filled hearts.  Thank You and Merry Christmas…From all of us at The Hope.

Season’s Greetings, Dear Mission Of Hope Friends;

What a tremendously special week it is at The Hope. We are now sending out truckloads of various items to several of the wonderful Ministry Centers that we are so privileged to serve. And they will in turn now be able to have their “Community Christmas Events”.

I have one Wish List Item (A Toy For The Hope) this Christmas. It’s a Sprinter Van. It’s a van that our dedicated Mission of Hope Volunteer Hero’s can use to pick up the wonderful donations that are given to us around the Community. And it has a high ceiling and thus, they can stand up in it.  It would be a wonderful and much welcomed new asset for all of what we do each and every day at The Hope.

It has been a true blessing this year to meet and become friends with a dear couple named Pat and Cindy Carroll. Pat is the President at Freightliner of Knoxville. He took his family with me on a Christmas Program Delivery last week, that was led by our dear Mission of Hope Team at Rather & Kittrell Capital Management; and he has become very passionate about what we do and who we serve and their needs. And he also is trying to help us get a Sprinter Van.  We don’t need a new one; just a good used one. If you have any interest in helping with this purchase…We would be extremely grateful and appreciative.

Just let me know by e-mail at ethomval@aol.com or by calling the Mission of Hope office at 865-584-7571

Thank you for your friendship and compassionate support of all we do at the MOH to help extend True Hope.

Sincerest Regards;

Seasons Greetings, Dear Mission Of Hope Friends;

WE DID IT!

No…GOD Did It!!!  He has Touched Hearts…And They have Given…And we have completed our Deliveries!

Please, Please, Please…Do not miss the Miracle of Prayer and its Power and the Great Gift of Giving.

I am excited to share with you that we have now completed all 27 Elementary School Christmas Delivery Programs and we have assisted and served over 17,000 Children and their Families.

The comments from our Mission Of Hope Delivery Team Captains have been so special and uplifting.  Over and over again this year we have heard:  “The Children were so EXCITED and seemed to be more appreciate and grateful for what we do for them…Than ever before.”  Each Program Team had special moments and what I hope are special memories…That they will forever cherish in their Hearts.

We have now begun the process of assisting some of the wonderful Mountain Ministry Centers we serve so they can have items to give out at their Christmas Events.  What a blessing it is to know how much we mean to them and to their Ministry’s.  They truly are “The Frontline Foot Soldiers”…Of God’s Mission Field in rural Appalachian Communities.

I would like to humbly and genuinely Thank You from all of our hearts at the Mission Of Hope for all of the Donations & Support, Volunteer Work, Prayer Support; and overall Compassionate Love & Concern for all of what we are so privileged to do at The Hope.

Please share this AWESOME News Update, with others you may know who were truly concerned as to if we would make it or not this year with all of the items we needed to help all of those we were striving to serve.  What a Joy it is to let you know…That God has provided for us to continue taking True Hope.

Thanks for your friendship and support and for all you do to help us extend The Hope.

Greetings, Dear Mission Of Hope Friends;

I trust by now you have received our NEW Mission Of Hope Newsletter. And if not, you can also view it at our web-site at:  www.missionofhope.org. But just in case you missed both of these, here is a special Fall Banquet – Thank You Update.

Our Annual Mission Of Hope Celebration and Fundraising Banquet “Circles Of Hope” was held on Thursday, November 3rd, at Rothchilds Conference & Event Center in Knoxville, TN. Despite cloudy dark skies and heavy rain, over 550 Friends and Supporters attended to give our 16th Annual Christmas Program a BIG Beginning. It was a very special evening indeed for all who were there.

A Heartfelt Thank You goes out to our Mission Of Hope Banquet Committee:  Susan White – Chairman, Ginger Forbes, Phil Peek, Shirley Wells, and Shirley Plant for planning and directing and for all of their hard work and time spent on this wonderful Event. A special Thanks as well to Colleen Addair, who did an excellent job as our Host for the evening and to Isabelle Cox for providing us with an AWESOME Musical Program.  Our sincere thanks as well to The Voices Of Hope – Bill Williams, Sammy Sawyer (Barney), Todd Duff – and for all of the uplifting and inspirational words and heart shared thoughts that they presented to us that evening.  I also want to Thank Mike & Steve White and Multi-Media Solutions; Clyde Plemmons & Plemmons Photography; Brian Holt with WBIR-TV; Jim McMichael Signs; Coleman’s Printing; Rothchild’s Staff; and to all of those who helped with Donations for our Auction’s and Table Centerpieces.

This Event would not be possible without the help and support of all of our MOH Banquet Sponsors. A special Thank You to Service Provider Group, and also to two very special Anonymous MOH Friends; who gave to underwrite this special Event for The Hope. We also extend a genuine Thank You to all of our Donor’s, Supporter’s, Volunteers, and other MOH Friends who helped make this Event possible and the true success it was. We are still receiving Banquet Gifts at the MOH, even now.

If by chance you missed this year’s Fall Banquet we hope you will join us next year. And if by chance you did not receive a Banquet Invitation in the mail please, please, please…forgive our oversight. This Wonderful Celebration Evening is open to all of our dear friends who want to attend…and for that we are honored.

Thank you for your friendship and support and for all you continue to do to help us extend True Hope.

Sincerest Regards;

Dear Mission Of Hope Friends;

We’ve come a long way…And we’re getting there…Please help us finish the task.

As you learned from my previous urgent appeal recently; our Christmas Drive Collection has been behind this year and our collection needs are great.  We are very grateful for all of the Donations we have received thus far in our Mission Of Hope Blue Barrels.  But it just hasn’t come in this year the way it has in the past.  And since we are serving 27 rural Elementary Schools and assisting over 17,000 Children and their Families this year; it takes lots and lots of Toys, Clothes, Food and Hygiene Items; to complete our Delivery Programs.  We have had a good Harvest in recent days and that has been an immense Blessing to all of our Volunteer Hero’s and to Shirley, Diane and myself; at The Hope.

At this point our dedicated Mission Of Hope Buyers will be purchasing most of the items we still need to pack; since our Blue Barrel Collection has ended.  And as such…We would be honored to have Financial Donations to help purchase the items we are now buying.   You can get more info about the Mission Of Hope and how to Donate at our website:  www.missionofhope.org.  Or you can also call the Mission Of Hope Office at:  865-584-7571 or Toll-Free at:  877-627-1909.  Or mail them to:  Mission Of Hope – P.O. Box 51824 – Knoxville, TN  37950.

Now in closing; let me make sure you understand something from the depth of my heart. Please, do not take away from your Church giving to Donate to us.  You give to your Church first. We have faced something this year that we have never experienced before; in our Collections being so down. We truly feel that many of our long time Faithful Mission Of Hope Donors & Supporters, are now feeling the impact of our stained economy…And as such, perhaps can’t help us this year.

But here is exactly where our Faith has to kick in and override our anxiety…And we will trust that God will provide His Harvest to meet His needs.  Thank you for your friendship and support and for all you have done and continue to do to help us be able to keep extending True Hope.

Sincerest Regards;
Emmette Thompson, Executive Director – Mission Of Hope
