MISSION OF HOPE
2009 CHRISTMAS DRIVE
NOVEMBER 20–DECEMBER 7

This year, more than ever, we need your Help!

With the cooler days and coming of Fall, our thoughts begin to focus on our less fortunate neighbors in rural Appalachia and how we can help them this Christmas season. Most of us are blessed every day with warm homes, warm clothes, plenty of food, and employment to provide for our needs. There are thousands of people living just a short drive from Knoxville that are struggling to provide even the basic necessities for their children from day to day. Most of these people want to work and provide for their families in the way many of us take for granted. However, this is an area of extreme poverty with few available jobs and many needs.

This will be the 14th year for our Christmas Campaign. The first year in 1996, we were able to provide for 150 children; and last year over 16,000 children and their families were assisted with food, new clothing, hygiene items, new toys and more. Our 2009 Christmas Campaign Blue Barrel Collections begin on Friday, November 20 and continue through Monday, December 7. (See below for needs and suggestions.)

Volunteers are also needed in the following tasks:

Phone Desk Hospitality Desk Barrel Pick Up
Administrative Helpers Sorting and Packing Warehouse Workers
Truck Loaders Pick Up Drivers Various other tasks

Donated Items

At Christmas, we focus on New Items Only; primarily because many of the children and families we assist only get new items at this time of year.  We have listed below several suggested items that will greatly benefit the children in the schools we assist.
