Healthcare Ministry

Our healthcare emphasis began in the spring of 2001. We were approached by Baptist Healthcare Systems about the use of their new 18-wheel mobile medical unit called REACH. This unit is well equipped with various medical stations, equipment, and supplies. We take it into rural Appalachian communities and do basis healthcare clinics with the various ministries and schools that we have become friends with. We schedule the events on Saturdays for better participation and we staff the unit with volunteers from the various church teams which support Mission of Hope.

Listed below are some of the services we offer with this program:

  • Blood pressure checking
  • Eye exams
  • Hearing exams
  • Cholesterol checks
  • Basic health status exams
  • Dental and hygiene

We also provide brochures and fliers concerning better healthcare and hygiene practices. These events have also offered a wonderful opportunity for evangelism. We try to take tracts and Bibles and share the gospel if and when we can.

Remote Area Medical Health Expedition

The 2nd Annual Remote Area Medical Health Expedition took place on September 22 and 23 in Tex Turner Arena on the LMU Campus in Harrogate, TN. Mission of Hope had a team of Healthcare Vols go to help with this event. RAM is not a Christian Ministry and there is no evangelical emphasis at their events. MOH Volunteers assisted with the medical, dental and optical services which were provided to a large number of people.

Mission of Hope Healthcare Fair in White Oak, TN

We had our first Mission of Hope Healthcare Fair in White Oak, TN, at the White Oak Community Resource Center on Saturday, May 5. A special thank you is extended to all our Healthcare Ministry Volunteers who donated their time and services for this much needed event. Healthcare needs are serious and in large demand throughout the areas we serve. Almost every patient we see has no health insurance provider, and many are without any type of assistance which would help them pay for healthcare costs.

We also want to thank the team from Park Way Baptist Church who brought lunch and crafts and games for all those who attended. They also provided Bibles and tracts for those interested and had the privilege of witnessing to several.

We are considering another Healthcare event for early Fall. If you have an interest in this special area of our ministry, please contact Shirley Plant at the Mission of Hope office.
