Our healthcare emphasis began in the spring of 2001. We were approached by Baptist Healthcare Systems about the use of their new 18-wheel mobile medical unit called REACH. This unit is well equipped with various medical stations, equipment, and supplies. We take it into rural Appalachian communities and do basis healthcare clinics with the various ministries and schools that we have become friends with. We schedule the events on Saturdays for better participation and we staff the unit with volunteers from the various church teams which support Mission of Hope. Listed below are some of the services we offer with this program:
We also provide brochures and fliers concerning better healthcare and hygiene practices. These events have also offered a wonderful opportunity for evangelism. We try to take tracts and Bibles and share the gospel if and when we can. |
Remote Area Medical Health Clinics I am excited to share with you that once again this year we will be partnering with Remote Area Medical (RAM) and our Friends at Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) in Harrogate, TN; for their Annual Spring Healthcare Event. The dates are May 22nd & 23rd. Perhaps you have been wanting to help with Healthcare assistance and are led to step forward and do as such. This is a wonderful opportunity for Healthcare Professionals and Healthcare interested Volunteers to be a part of something extremely special and much needed; in rural Appalachia. It is amazing and heart wrenching to see hundreds of people in dire need; standing in line and waiting their turn to get some kind of healthcare assistance. For many, it is the only chance they have to get help. And many will come there in severe pain. The services they will be assisting with that weekend are: Medical exams/ needs, Dental exams/needs, Vision exams/needs, and also Veterinary exams/needs. I will also be leading a Mission Of Hope Volunteer Team; to assist with Hygiene Items distribution. If you are a Healthcare Professional or Healthcare Volunteer and are interested and or would like additional information about this and other 2010 Events; please call the RAM office in Knoxville, TN; at 865-579-1530; or visit their web-site at www.ramusa.org. They can also share with you about lodging accommodations at LMU that weekend and meal provisions as well. Thanks for your friendship and support and for helping us extend the Hope thru Healthcare. |
