The Back to School ministry for Mission of Hope plays a very important role in the lives of children of poverty stricken communities in rural school districts by providing backpacks filled with much needed new school supplies at the beginning of the new school year. We have heard over and over from the principals and teachers in these schools what a positive difference these school supplies and the compassionate giving of others makes in raising the self-esteem and educational performance of their students.

Do you remember how much fun it was to get new school supplies when you were a child? Parents want their children to have everything they need for a good education, but in Appalachia this privilege is sometimes an impossibility. The Mission of Hope needs your help with its 2009 Back To School Program. This is our 12th annual event and we plan to assist some 10,000 Appalachian children with the school supplies they will need to get a good start to their school year. A donation of $10 will provide a new backpack and supplies to a very deserving student. 7th Annual Mission of Hope & Chick-fil-A Golf Classic

Overview

Since 1996, the Mission of Hope has ministered to the people of various Appalachian counties in Kentucky and Tennessee from which 80% of the region’s residents no longer have jobs in the coal mining industry. Our first ministry effort 15 years ago assisted only 150 children. The amazing generosity of so many people in 2009 enabled Mission of Hope to assist over 17,000 children and their families with food, clothes, toys and hygiene items, as well as much needed back to school supplies. We are blessed to now be a year round ministry. The Golf Classic proceeds support our Back To School program.

Format

The 2010 Mission of Hope Golf Classic will be comprised of a four-person scramble. In this scramble, a four member team competes as a team for the lowest score. Each team member will tee off and the best drive of the team is then selected as the location for each team member’s next shot. This process is followed until the hole is completed. The team records the score and moves to the next hole.

The Golf Classic will consist of both a morning and afternoon round. First and second place prizes will be awarded to teams in both morning and afternoon rounds.

Other prizes will be awarded for a Hole-in-One, Closest-to-the-Pin, etc.
